Preparing for Delegate Zero
Starting with this latest tour of Mexico, Zapatista leader Subcomandante Marcos is calling himself "Delegate Zero" in reference to the upcoming elections in Mexico (next July) for President of the country.
Your favorite blog authors will be touring with some journalists, providing transportation and support, as they (and we) prepare for Delegate Zero's arrival in the Yucatan next week.
This weekend we are going to Cancun and Playa del Carmen to talk to the people there, as he will be speaking there next weekend. We hope to have a chance to look around and report on the ever-improving conditions of the popular tourist destinations as well.
For those of you who are interested, here is a brief schedule of Marcos' public appearances in the state of Yucatan next week:
Tuesday, Jan. 10 and Wednesday Jan. 11 there will be a big gathering at 9:00 AM in Uay'Ja, Chablekal, Merida where Marcos will speak (and we suppose, listen as well). At 6:00 PM on Tuesday, there will be a meeting of simpatizantes zapatistas, or Zapatista supporters.
Thursday, Jan. 12 at 9:00 AM is an opportunity for organizations who have previously indicated their interest in working with the EZLN through this page:
http://enlacezapatista.ezln.org.mx/.
At 6:00 PM on Thursday in the Plaza Grande of Merida there will be an acto publico to celebrate the 12 years that the Zapatistas have been working together and organizing.
If you are interested in understanding more about the Zapatistas and why they are having all these meetings and making these journeys, perhaps a good place to start is their most recent communique which can be found here in English:

On Friday, January 13, Marcos will travel to Quintana Roo. More on that later.
