Welcome to the jungle! If you come to Yucatan, be prepared to live where the wild things are.

A common Mexican green iguana. Many are kept as low-maintenance pets. <a href=></a> Although this Yucatan version of the wolf spider looks menacing, they are harmless to humans and eat other annoying bugs. <a href=></a> Iguanas lurking around the Mayan archaeological zones seem almost as numerous as pigeons in Merida's main plaza. <a href=></a> A ring-tailed Coatimundi, the raccoon of Latin America. <a href=></a> The Yucatan has spider monkeys like the one shown here. Chiapas, to the west, has the larger and much louder howler monkey. We'll take the spider monkey. <a href=></a> These leaping green lizards can be seen hopping from bush to bush in search of food. <a href=></a> Yes, there are still crocodiles in the marshes and coastal rivers of Yucatan, but most are in captivity. <a href=></a> You find these guys in the stangest places sometimes. <a href=></a>
