Mayaland Stained Glass
If you are going to Chichen Itza, consider walking out the back entrance towards Mayaland (or driving around and parking there) to check out these beautiful stained glass windows. They have been installed on the lower floor to the right of the main entrance beyond one of the gift shops. You can observe them without even going into the hotel, but of course they are especially beautiful with the light streaming through them.
The windows are all based on the original drawings of Frederic Catherwood, the man who came to the Yucatan with John Stephens.
The two of them collaborated to write and illustrate the first travel book about this area, called "Incidents of Travel in the Yucatan". There are at least five different scenes, including some of Catherwood's most famous drawings. Seeing them in living colour and so much bigger than usual really brings them to life. The windows were made locally in Merida and are beautifully executed.

There are also stained glass window companies in Merida. Two are fairly close together in the NW area of the Circuito Colonias.

We are also interested to know if anyone knows who made the windows? A local craftsman or artist? Are stained glass supplies available in Merida? Are there any stained glass businesses for custom windows?
