My son and I were reading the above review. He was excited about the Pizza. He said to tell Amalia, "Hijo de playa"... Giovanni is 11

Of course anybody can cook anything they want and call what they like, but this doesn't mean that there aren't time-honored traditions of food which can only really be learned and known to those who were born and lived within a culture for a long time.
I can cook Thai and Indian and make stir-fries but I'd never have any pretense to authenticity when I do that. And I am not "part" Italian or Italian-American so I think I do know what I'm talking about. I also haven't really met anobody before who would say that restaurants in Italy are "terrible", so I guess there's no accounting for taste, or perhaps that was just a cheap, tit-for-tat remark...
Anyhow, since my comment (NOT a review) I have had occasion to eat there. I enjoyed the location and the owners. I ate a pizza which I wouldn't have called a pizza, being from Naples, but it wasn't bad. However I think next time I'd stick with the "Greek" stuff so as not to be disappointed in the search for an elusive taste that I know all too well can hardly be replicated outside of Italy, let alone when someone has learned to cook Italian food from recipes in a book.
Before I am told again to "relax" I want to remark that in France they have fixed standards and even trademarks for their food; Italians instead are apparently sufficiently "relaxed" as to allow the whole world to cook "authentic" Italian food and make "pizza" that don't resemble the real thing at all and nobody gets sued!

In response to Amalia's review (above), I am part Italian/Mexican, and it doesn't mean I can't cook an authentic dish, respectively. RELAX, and enjoy the fact that you have options to eat a decent meal (spoken as a Chef from Le Cordon Bleu).

When I dine in Italy, many restaurants are terrible! So much for being an "authentic".

No doubt the food is great, but sorry, as an authentic Italian (ie. born and bred in Italy, not Italian-American) I have become so sick of the misuse of the above word, especially in conjunction with the adjectives "Italian" or "Mediterranean". Let's see: "authentic" Greek and Italian food made by a Canadian couple (no doubt adorable). Am I the only one who sees something wrong with this picture?

We visited them recently, the food was amazing. Our favorite place for sure. Jake and Rae Anne as everyone has already mentioned were adorable people. It is worth giving it a try!And eventually coming back again and again.

Sounds like a great place! We'll have to try it soon.

Could we ask for some pricing indications on the restaurant listings? Like ... oh I don't know. $ = 100 pesos or less for one meal & drink; $$ = 200 pesos; $$$ = 300 pesos. Just an idea.

Thank you for all the great listings. It seems you are mostly starting in Centro and working your way out? I'd be hard put to know how to begin this kind of a project. Just know a cocina economica and a couple taco stands! ;-)

My partner and I are currently remodeling a home in Merida and this has become one of our favorite restaurants. The fresh pastas are absolutely fantastic. Rae Ann and Jake are very nice and their wonderful food deserves to be tried and and no doubt enjoyed. Every item we have had has been delicious and we will return. I recommend it to everyone we know going to or in Merida.
