Reporting From Mexico City
So this very ambitious website is run apparently single-handedly by Deborah Bonello, a UK native who has lived in Mexico City since 2007. The site is billed as a multi-media news site, and Deborah does it all: writing, photography and videography. She's a good reporter who covers interesting stories you might not get elsewhere. She is informed and curious, good things in a reporter, and she writes well. She has written for the Los Angeles Times, the Guardian, Al Jazeera, the BBC and the Financial Times, so we must not be the only ones who think so. The current front page features articles on Immigration, includng stories about the falling remittances from Mexicans in the USA and how that is affecting their families in Mexico, as well as film reviews on the subject of Mexican immigrants. Deborah links to current stories in the news that her audience might be interested in. Being a 20-something reporter, she focuses a lot on videos, and presents some very interesting ones... though we wish the person interviewing her on the About Us page had done a better job of mixing the sound.
Deborah travels outside of Mexico City, but naturally she focuses there and in the center of Mexico. Certainly, there is enough going on there to keep her busy. She obviously has a good grasp of the culture and politics of Mexico and her articles and videos are well-researched. We may not go there daily, but certainly this website is on our radar now to check every week or so. Let us know what you think!
