Hemingways in Tulum
We're back in Merida with a lot to write about... and no time to do it! Montones de email is the price you pay for taking a few days off.
We stayed at a lovely little collection of casitas, called Hemingways. The owner is Paola... she speaks Italian and Spanish and not much English. She manages the eleven casitas with a casual aplomb.
You can read more about Hemingway's here on the Mexonline website.
The casitas are clean and spacious. There are three of them right on the beach, and the rest at varying distances behind those. Paola lost her restaurant, also on the beach, in two hurricanes, but rebuilt both times. And each time better. So now, the restaurant with a view of the water is one of the best on that stretch of beach. You can be sheltered from the wind and sun, or sit out in the sun. Either way, you have a beautiful view and great food!
As you can see from the photo, the beach is big, white and mostly empty... just the way we like them!
If you stay there, be sure to say we sent you. And be sure to have Paola cook lunch for you at least once... her tagliatelle with fresh prawns in a white wine sauce was the perfect meal for us one afternoon, with a bottle of chilled white wine and a view of the ocean from our own front porch. Heaven!
