Puppies Looking for a Home

22 September 2009 Animals in the Yucatan 10

This marks the first of what we hope is a very short series of Pets for Adoption articles. (We seriously DOUBT it will be a short series, but we can dream, right?). If you are considering getting a pet, we highly encourage you (we'd FORCE you if we could...) to adopt a pet instead of buying one. Bookmark this section of Yucatan Living and check here periodically... and please tell your friends. If you are ready for a dog or cat, check here first to see about an adoption.

Four Puppies

Check out these cute little puppies available for adoption.  They are about 1 ½ month old mixes, happy and healthy.  The mother was found tied to the door of a local animal shelter about 2 months ago.  These little guys just need love and attention.  They have tentatively been named Chickle (m), Copo (m), Toy (m) and Pirata (f). They are very sweet, but in need of human attention and affection..  Pirata, the little female is especially shy, but they all enjoy being held and cuddled.

Mara, call the people at Evolucion... a link to their website is under Companeros on the right side of the page. We will also send them an email. Can you at least go leave the dog some food and water please?

PLEASE HELP!! There is an abandoned dog in an empty lot located on the corner of Prolongacion Montejo and Avenida 49, Benito Juarez Norte facing N, the NW section. There are always fruit vendors right on that corner. The poor dog has been there since I saw him on December 2011, today is January 2012 and he is still there, in bad condition due to lack of food/water/shelter. I have no means of taking him to a shelter and will fly home soon. Please someone that could pick him up and taking to one of the wonderful shelters I have read in this blog….. help! God bless.

This is not a reply. I would like to get in touch with someone who could possibly help. Please..I just received a phone call from someone in Progreso, Yucatan who is looking for a loving home for a 7 month old golden lab. He says he gave him to somebody but when he came by to check up on him he found him covered in mud and totally abandoned. He took the dog back and is actively looking for a family who would love him and treat him nicely. If anybody has any suggestions please-please contact me.

    Hi Frances,
There are lots of opportunities to get involved... our suggestion would be to contact YAPA, the group of expats that specifically works to support the local shelters that care for and find homes for cats and dogs. They will be able to direct you to the area of the greatest need or one that fits your skills and desires. YAPA's contact information is in the article above...

My husband and I will be moving to Merida next year - we have three cats and two shetland sheepdogs that we will be bringing with us (if allowed). Animals are a big part of my life and as I will be retired when I move I will be looking for volunteer opportunities and working with animals would be a perfect fit for me.

How do I get involved in my new community ? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Wonderful to hear, Lois and Bruce! There are some really exceptionally wonderful dogs down here, just looking for a good home. Sounds like there are two good homes coming soon!!

Great article. I'm planning on retiring in Merida and look forward to adopting a dog the moment I'm settled in. Thanks for the great work!

Hooray!! This is just great, Ellen! I've been looking for a dog to adopt to bring back down from the States but now I'll just wait until I get there. :)
